Colorado offers some of the best riding in the nation. With a diverse environment of plains, deserts, foothills, mountains and alpine environments, there is something for everyone.
Colorado requires a motorcycle endorsement to legally ride a motorcycle on a public roadway as per title 42 CRS 42-2-103.
There are two ways to obtain a motorcycle endorsement on your Colorado driver’s license:
Option 1:
Pass the motorcycle written exam.
Once you’ve passed the written exam, purchase a motorcycle instruction permit.
Schedule an appointment and pass a motorcycle drive skills test.
Purchase a new driver license to add motorcycle endorsement at a driver license office.
Option 2:
Complete a Motorcycle Operator Safety Training (MOST) course.
Present your original MOST license waiver card during your appointment and purchase a new driver license to the add motorcycle endorsement.
You cannot add a motorcycle endorsement by mail, online or over the phone. You must have an appointment at a driver license office to add a motorcycle endorsement to your Colorado driver license.

Pass the written test and purchase a motorcycle permit $18.52
Drivers Skills Test
The motorcycle skills test involves: a slow riding exercise, where the candidate rides alongside the examiner at walking pace. a slalom and figure of eight exercise, riding around cones, walking and riding U-turn exercises, acceleration to hard braking, obstacle avoidance, and use of the motorcycle stands.
New drivers license motorcycle endorsement
Once you have completed the skills test, you can obtain a new Colorado drivers license with a motorcycle endorsement. The cost is $30.87 for a drivers license renewal and $2.00 for the motorcycle endorsement. Costs here.
Option 2:
Motorcycle Operator Safety Training (MOST) Course
Taking a motorcycle operators safety course is a great way to learn a variety of mental and physical skills to keep yourself and your riding sharp while traversing Colorado’s mountain roads. These courses usually consist of two days, one being classroom, and the other including hands-on riding instructions. Whether a brand new rider, or someone looking to hone their skills, a Basic Riders Course (BRC) is a great tool!

Once you have completed the BRC, you will receive a certificate to allow a motorcycle endorsement on your Colorado drivers license.
