The Bureau of Land Management is implementing a camping permit program that includes future expanded amenity fees and new developed campgrounds at Rabbit Valley in McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. The program will improve and expand recreation opportunities and protect natural and cultural resources.

Rabbit Valley is a popular recreation area for camping, off-highway vehicle riding, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The BLM will develop about 75 campsites in Rabbit Valley and implement a fee system in the late winter/early spring of 2023. The BLM is implementing a temporary fee-free Individual Special Recreation Permit program starting today, which will remain in effect until the new campgrounds are complete.

“Use of the area has increased over the last 15 years, and the camping fees will be used to improve infrastructure, develop amenities, and maintain the area,” said McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area Manager, Collin Ewing. “We involved the public throughout the process with several comment periods, meetings, and consultations with the Southwest Resource Advisory Council.”

Once campground construction is complete, all camping in Rabbit Valley will be in a developed campground. Fees will be $20 per night per campsite and includes two vehicles. For larger capacity sites, each additional vehicle beyond two will be $10 per night, with a maximum of five vehicles.

The BLM welcomes public comments on the implementation of this plan. Comments must be received or postmarked by June 28, 2022. The Business Plan, Environmental Assessment, Finding of No Significant Impact, Decision Record, and associated documents are available on the BLM ePlanning website: https://go.usa.gov/xyV3D.
