Steamboat Springs, CO
The Ellis Trail has been around for some time and is a popular trail in northern Colorado. It offers great scenery and a little bit of challenge for every level of rider. The nearby Ellis Jeep Trail (Red Park Road) is close to 14 miles long and has a number of wet sections so plan for a full day.
Nunn, CO
The Main Draw OHV Area, a sandy shallow canyon within Pawnee National Grassland, offers off-season riding close to Fort Collins and Greeley. The open floor of the canyon provides easy riding and exploring opportunities. Sand drifts within the canyon provide expert riding opportunities. Open annually from November 1 to April 9.
Crowdrey, CO
Free and open year round, the North Sand Hills is the only sand OHV area in the state and provides diverse opportunities for off-highway enthusists. The area has primitive camping and restrooms but no sources of potable water. Roads east of the dunes allow access to trails on state and Forest Service land.
Steamboat Springs, CO
Hahns Peak is the predominant geographical feature in the Steamboat Lake area. The climb to the abandoned fire lookout at the summit is over a wide track covered in loose lava rock. Nipple Peak and Prospector trails offer wooded singletrack riding with tight turns, narrow tracks and slippery roots.
Red Feather Lakes, CO
The area contains over 100 miles of double-track ATV trails and roads suitable for beginning to advanced riders. The area also contains 7 miles of singletrack trails open to motorcycles only. Deadman Road is a county road and is strictly off-limits to unlicensed, non-street-legal vehicles.

This advanced singletrack trail requires expert bike handling skills to negotiate the major stream crossings and the numerous extremely difficult rocky sections. The singletrack trail becomes ATV trail a few miles north of Lone Pine and then continues north before terminating at the Helena Trailhead.

The Seven Mile trail starts simply enough but quickly turns into a wet, rocky road with numerous stream crossings and basketball-sized rocks. With slow, raceful maneuvering, this trail can be run in stock high clearance vehicles. If you're on an ATV or motorcycle, be prepared for a bumpy ride. Experience negotiating large rocks is essential.

Kelly Flats is notorious for Heart Attack Hill--an extremely steep and rocky climb near the beginning of the trail. Rollovers and unintentional dismounts are a real risk and the alternate route isn't much easier. Once past the hill or its alternate, the two-track road flattens out and provides for many scenic views.

Located northwest of Maybell, Sand Wash Basin is one of the only OHV areas in Northwestern Colorado. This vast area managed by the BLM has many trails and is also a popular area for viewing wild horses.

Old Flowers Road is a scenic route located close to Fort Collins. Old Flowers Road starts with an easy dirt road that winds through the foothills. A few muddy sections can be challenging when wet. The trail finishes on Pingree Park Road which leads back to Highway 14.

The State Forest State Park is located in the moose viewing capital of Colorado and offers abundant camping with ride-in/ride-out access to the OHV trails within the park. Non-motorized members of your group may enjoy nearby mountian biking and hiking trails or visiting the parks's Moose Visitor Cener while you're out riding.

The Moody Hill and Crystal Mountain trails are the closest OHV trails to Fort Collins. Good scenery and a few very challenging obstacles combine to make this a good nearby trail for Fort Collins residents. The entrance to Moody can be difficult for stock vehicles, especcially in wet conditions.

Just outside of Drake, the trails leading up to Storm Mountain provide amazing views of the Roosevelt National Forest. Heading north then west from the trailhead provides a challenging climb to the top of Storm Mountain. Heading North then east offers some easier exploring opportunities.

The Percy Lake Trail is a rough, rocky, challenging ATV trail through the woods that connects to the milder and much smoother Wyoming Trail. The Wyoming Trail tops out at Buffalo Pass on the southern edge of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness Area. Be prepared to yield to mountain bikers on the Wyoming Trail.

This trail system near Rand consists mostly of loops of intermediate level singletrack. The trails to the northeast are predominantly easy with a few short intermediate sections. The southwestern trails are mostly intermediate with a few moderately difficut sections

This beautiful and scenic pass, located just outside of Grand Lake, is a wonderful mountain drive. Most of the road is graded; however, water and mud can occur during and after hard rains. A great area with camping access for anyone looking to get off the paved path and see what Colorado really offers.

This popular trail system on both sides of the town of Yampa offers great access to many of the lakes in th earea. Moderate ATV trails, such as Heart Lake also provide more technical riding for those looking for a greater challenge.

The Middle Saint Vrain and Coney Creek trails are challenging 4WD routs located close to the Denver metro area and on the edge of the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Big rocks and deep creek crossings provide lots of challenges for experienced drivers in high-clearance 4WD vehicles. This area is also frequented by riders on ATVs.
Raymond, CO
This unique trail west of Longmont provides many different routes that can make for a full day. With great camping and rich history, interwesting stops include the historic Bunce School building and even a plane crash from 1965. If you are looking for a bigger challenge, try the Ironclads route.
Kremmling, CO
The Wolford Travel Management Area provides over 150 miles of trails immediately north of Kremmling. With 4WD, ATV, and singletrack trails, as well as the Sidewinder rock crawl route, this area is a popular destination in northern Colorado. The area is mulitple use so please be mindful of hikers and equestrians.
Meeker, CO
This trail system is currently being developed and will add additional trail opportunities to the existing Wagon Wheel OHV System. Routes will now extend from Meeker west to the town of Rangely using many existing and re-established full size roads. Look for additional trailhead staging areas on BLM lands located in Rio Blanco County.

This system provides many miles of OHV trails and can be accessed from several different trailhead locations as well as by designated county road OHV routes. Some UTV trails allowing for vehicles wider the 50" can be found here and connections can be made to the Flat Tops area as well.

This system provides a great place for the less experienced enthusiast to access the roads in the mountains outside of Fraser. Try the area early or late in the season when the snow and wet conditions can add to the difficulty if you desire a challenge. Good camping around the area makes for a great weekend getaway.

The Spring Creek Road OHV Area is part of more than 100 miles of off-highway vehicle routes in the Summit and Grand County area. Offering a variety of opportunites in both difficulty and length, the trails that wind through the forests of Colorado high country are easy to enjoy.

This singletrack trail provides riders with beautiful vistas while negotiating the technical, rocky, and ticght trail through the high-country juniper forest. Highly recommended for experience riders only.
Rollinsville, CO
This histroic road over the Continental Divide was the original Hill Route of the Denver, Northwestern, and Pacific Railways built by David H. Moffat in 1903. The road starts a few miles outside the town of Rollinsville before coming to a dead end on the east side of Rollins Pass at the closed Needle Eye Tunnel at an elevation of 11,265 feet. The summit of the pass is a 2.5 mile hike past this point.
Winter Park, CO
Also known as Corona Pass Road, this trail winds up to the Continental Divide just east of Winter Park. This easy route follows one of the original railway routes over the mountains built in 1903. To the west of Winter Park are many more trails accessed off of FS Road 152

This area includes several routes open to all vehicle types including the full size forest road terminating at Bill Moore Lake and the Mill Creek jeep route. Red Elephant Hill jeep road is also nearby but it is highly recommended to start form the Dumont entrance.
Idaho Springs, CO
This large sytem of roads stretches north out of Idaho Springs and offers amazing high-mountain access. Areas to explore include the breathtaking Saint Marys Glacier and Chinns Lake. The many great climbs include Kingston Peak and Yankee Hill. Please note access to the glacier is non-motorized.

Located just off of I-70 west of Vail, Bocco Mountain offers spectacular views and challenging riding for those who are looking for it. This popular area has 18 miles of singletrack open to dirt bike and non-motorized recreation . Some trails are one-way at the request of riders.

The Flat Tops area is a system of designated primitive forest roads that are accessible to all types of OHVs including side-by-sides. Nearby is the Flat Tops Wilderness Area prividing primitive non-motorized and non-mechanized reaction opportunites.

These (4) indiviual rock crawling trails are located just north of Gypsum on BLM managed land. The routes include: Tie Rod Bender-moderate to difficult, MiddleMiddle-More difficult, UpperMiddle-more difficult/extreme, and Ten Falls-very extreme. Please take note of the required equipment listed on signs for each of these trails.

Offering great access to Vail, Avon, and Edwards this trail system has many popular 4WD forest roads and ATV routes. With great views of the mountains north of I-70 as well as the ski areas to the south, the area provides access to Muddy Pass to the north.

These high clearance 4WD roads provide a series of loops and connecting routes between Georgetown and Lawson. Great views can be found as you gain elevation quickly. Please note that these routes include high exposure/'cliff edge' sections with minimal turnouts

The roads surrounding Argentine Pass are rocky and sometimes very narrow. Looking down from over 13,000 feet from the top of McClellan Mountain provides for great views of the Santiago and Waldorf mines. Easy access from Georgetown makes this a great area to explore.

This recently re-developed trail system proves several, fairly short singletrack routes open to motorcycles. The sustem is easy to access and includes a new trailhead/staging area. Please note that these are multi-use singletrack trails and cuclists are likely to be encountered here.

Located between Gypsum and Eagle South of I-70, Hardscrabble provides a mix of ATV and singletrack trails winding up into the moutains. Although the majority of the area is gentle enough for less expereiced riders, there are some challengin areas to explore.

This new open OHV area is conveniently located just north of Rifle off of I-70. Also offereing many differet trails to explore, this area is a great playground in western Colorado.
Vail, CO
One of the more popular difficult trails in the state, Holy Cross offers the hardcore enthusiast breathtaking views and history along with very challenging ovstacles. Plenty of old mines and site of the Holy Cross City ghost town.
Fairplay, CO
A moderate 4WD trail that is southwest of Denver off Highway 285. Offering some fun climbs, tippy sectios, and rock obstacles, this trail is great even for the veteran enthusast. In we conditions, protions of this trail can become quite challenging.
Breckenridge, CO
This trail system accessed from Tiger Road near Breckenridge has several trail opportunites for all vehicle types. Connections can be made to Georgia Pass and the Sawn River drainages. Note that license plates are required on the west (South Park) side of Georgia Pass.

Crooked Creek, accessible out of Eagle, is another beautiful Colorado mountain pass. A great ride on dual-sport bikes or an ATV, but is also suitable for all vehicle types.

This area is located directly west of De Beque provides a few trails, some new singletrack opportunites for motorcycles, and many miles of full size traods that continue west into the Hourse Mountains. Wild horses can sometimes ve seen in this area.

Tracing the route of the old Midland Railroad, the road leading to Ruedi Reservoir is a well-preserved mountain drive bringing back memories of historic Colorado. Rich in natural resources and history, this area is also a popular fishing destination. Continue east to reach Hagerman Pass

Located 35 miles southwest of Denver, this area features more than 22 designated trails for dirt bikes and ATVs. The trails range in elevation from 6,500 feet to over 8,500 feet with terrain and challenges varied enough for riders of all abilities. Dispered camping sites and fee campgrounds are available.

This area inclueds a system of 4WD roads and high mountian passes spanning from Summit County to the Park County side near Fairplay with connections to Holden Horseshoe as well. Please note that there is an official 'one-way' (downhill only) section of Red Cone and that snowdrifts can often be encountered year round in this area.

The trail to Wheeler Lake offers a wonderful variety of challenges leading up an old glacial valley. Leave early and take a lunch, as the shores of the lake beneath Wheeler Mountain are the perfect place to take a break.

These motorcycle trails can be accessed from the Basalt Mountian Trailhead or from Cottonwood Pass near Gypsum. These winding singletrack routes are intersected by full size Forest Road #514, Red Table Mountain Road which is open to all vehicle types.

The connecting pass to Ruedi Reservoir from the east, Hagerman Pass is a great drive for all vehicle types. Looking over Turquoise Reservoir, this high mountain pass is a great sumer destination, and easily accessed from Leadville.

Just east of Leadville, Mosquito Pass is the highest pass in Colorado open to motorized travel. Although rocky in areas, stock high-clearance vehicles should have no problem during dry conditions. With old mines and mills along the way, as well as scenic views over the alpine environment, this is a great summer trail.

Comprising 5 popular interconnected trails, North Fruita Desert contains a mix of single and double tracks ranging in difficulty. Some trails gain as much as 2500 feet in elevation. Know for very hot temperatures in the summer, plan to bring plenty of water.

This challenging, straight-through trail provides users with about 6.5 miles of obstacles and diverse terrain. Badger Flats provides easy OHV rides on mostly smooth and level full size forest roads. Located between the Tarryall Mountains and Puma Hills, south and east of the Town of Jeffernson off of Highway 285.

The Gulches are a series of roads that lead deep into the heart of the Hayman Burn area and the South Platte River. Closed after the fire in 2002 for restoration, they have recently opened with some restrictions to allow for some very unique opportunites to see the forest recovery in progress.

Starting at the Lower Trout Creek trailhead, these trails lie within the area affected by the 2002 Hayman Burn, the largest wildfire in Colorado's recorded history. Many trails were closed during restoration but have since reopened and provide great views of the recovering landscape.

Connecting the touwns of Crested Butte, Marble, and Aspen these challenging roads offer some of the most scenic vistas of the Central Rockies. For a step back in history, visit the Crystal Mill below the Devil's Punchbowl on the marbel side of Schofield Pass. Unlicensed OHVs are premitted along designated sections of these routes.

The northern part of the extensive Uncompahgre trail system provides access into the Uncompahgre National Forest. On the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains, there is no lack of beautifyl scenery. This trail system leads through the southern Collegiate Peaks, near the bases of Mt. Princeton and Mt. Antero. A number of the local trails cross the Continental Divide over to the Tincup and Taylor Park region.

The Cactus Park area is accessed via State Highway 141 and provides various OHV opportunites as well as access to the Uncompahgre Plateau with additional routes managed by the USFS. The nearby Tabequaches Trail is a full size 4WD road that contiunes for many miles.

As the northern portion of the 9,700 acre Flat top-Peach Valley Recreation area, this popular riding location offers many opportunites for riders of all ability levels. With interconnecting singletrack trails outside of the open area, there is no shortage of different rides you can take.

This trail network on the western side of the Collegiate Peaks connects Taylor Park, Tincup, and St. Elmo through a series of routes open to all vehicle types. Numerous high passes can be found within a couple hours ride or drive. The Alpine Tunnel historic site is nearby between Pitkin and Hancock Pass.

A mix of trails suitable for all types of OHVs, the Dry Creek area is nestled in the middle of the Uncompahgre Plateau with great views of the San Juan Mountains to the south. This area is also close to a number of exteme 4WD trails on the Uncompahgre, such as Scratch and Dent, Die Trying, and Cactus.

As the southern part of the 9,700 acre Flat Top-Peach Valley recreation area, this popular open area and trail system matches Peach Valleyfor riding opportunity. With well over 20 miles of interconnecting singletrack trails in this section of the recreation area, you can explore all day or all weekend.

A multi use recreation area located less that 5 miles from the center of town, Hartman Rocks recreation area has over 30 miles of singletrack riding. Combined with the closed course track for dirt bikes and ATVs, this area is a wonderful dirt oasis in the sourthern part of the state. Please use caution as the multi use trails are shared with bike, horse, and foot traffic.

Texas Creek is an extensive trail system that provides great views of the Arkansas River Valley and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. With many different trails spanning the spectrum in difficulty, all riders can find something to enjoy on these trails.

Extreme rock crawling routes provide a challenge for 4x4 enthusiasts. This area also has multiple trails for all types of motorized users and skill levels.

This system of full size forest roads provides scenic off-highway opportunities and access to several lakes and overlooks. Nearby 'Green Creek' and 'Pass Creek' singletracl trails and the CDT can also be accessed from here and are open to motorcycles only.

The trails near Sargents are rocky, high- moountain singletrack and ATV trails that run through the forests and spend some time above timeberline. Riders should be comfrotable roding steep uphill and downhill rocky sections with tree spaced and handlebar width. The area is also very popular with mountain bikers and hikers.

This beautiful trail runs between Highway 50 and 285 south of Salida. With great camping along the way, this moderate trail provides great views of the San Isabel and Rio Grande National Forests. Underground springs keep the trail wet in some sections and it can be dangerous when icy early and late in the season.

Rich in mining history with many full access routes leading past remnants of old Colorado, the main draw to this area is the ATV trails. Also near La Garita trail system that winds to the south, this area offers days of potential riding.

Just as in the North, the southern half of the Uncompahgre National Forest provides great riding with stunning views of the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains. With trails for all vehicle tyes and skill levels, this large riding area is a great destination on the western side of the state.

The Rainbow Trail runs for over 100 miles along the eastern edge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains from Salida to Westcliffe. Medano Pass Road intersects the Rainbow Trail before terminating in the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Only licensed, street-legal vehicles are allowed west of the Medano Pass summit and into the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

This scenic loop east of Lake City provides great riding in and out of open timber and through open meadows. Close camping access and the bordering Powderhorn Wilderness make this singletrack and ATV route a unique location for riders.
Colorado City, CO
These challenging singletrack trails provide a solid amount of fun with steep climbs, switchbacks, and other challening terrain. Located in southern Colorado, this system is convenient to the Pueblo area. Licensed dirt bikes can loop these trails together by taking a short trip down Highway 165.
Telluride, CO
Winding through the woods and streams west of the San Juan Mountains, these Jeep, ATV, and some easier singletrack trails are easily accessible west of Telluride. Bordering the Lizard Head Wilderness, this is a great area to explore in southwest Colorado.

The Alpine Loop is a series of county roads over high mountain passes connecting the towns of Ouray, Lake City, Silverton, and Telluride. This area is rich in mining history and has a large number of Colorado's famous 14,000 foot peaks nearby. Many of the roads can be driven in a stock SUV.

Primarily ATV and singletrack trails, the Groundhog Park area offers a mix of more advanced riding opportunities. Being the link between the La Garita system to the north and the Del Norte area to the south, Groundhog Park offers access to one of the largest systems of trails in the southern part of Colorado.

Medano Pass leads from Highway 69 over to the Sand Dunes National Park. Along the pass are numerous dispersed camping spots, and a number of designated camping spots inside the National Park. Only street legal 4x4 vehicles and licensed dirt bikes are allowed west of the summit.
La Garita, CO
La Garita Stock Driveway and the surrounding ATV and singletrack trails are located on the eastern end of the Rio Grande National Forest. Providing trails that range in difficulty as they climb into the mountains, this is one of the best places in southern Colorado to get in a long, scenic ride.
Telluride, CO
At over 10,000 feet this gentle Colorado pass provides great views of the southern part of the state. Suitable for all vehicle types, this is a great drive for someone who is not looking for a technical outing, but rather a less-traveled path through the Uncompahgre National Forest.

Most of the singletrack trails west of town are highly technical rides generally above treeline. Tucked in the high alpine environment of the southwest corner of Colorado, anyone looking for a hilly and challenging ride will be up for exploring the Rico area.

Mostly singletrack trails with some limited ATV opportunities offer a great way to explore the hills, streams, and forests in this great part of Colorado. Mostly intermediate and above trails give the opportunity to spend a full day on the Hermost Trail System.

The Del Norte trail system stretches southwest out of town connecting with many great ATV and singletrack trails. The moderately challenging trails reach high into the mountains and are often above tree line providing spectacular views of the mountains in southern Colorado.

This trail system sits just north of Vallecito Lake, and borders the Weminuche Wilderness. There are numerous places to camp along Middle Mountain Road, and trail opportunities for all types of OHVs.
Montezuma, CO
This trail system through the southern San Juan Mountains provides miles of trails ranging from the scenic Aspen Loop ATV route, to the Morrison trail which Provides both singletrack and ATV opportunites. Dispersed camping is available, as well as a developed campground.
Pagosa Springs, CO
Just outside of Pagosa Springs, this area offers moderate ATV trails with good camping opportunities. Also provides easy access to Williams Lake to the North.

This unique system located just south of Cortez includes a variety of off road opportunities with several OHV trails, a UTV play zone, and (2) open rock crawling areas. Please refer to the kiosk at trailhead and signs on the ground which list restrictions and boundry of open areas.
