Volunteer Opportunity! – Lefthand Canyon Singletrack Construction

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

New Singletrack Trail Project

Lefthand OHV Area, USFS Boulder Ranger District

Saturday and Sunday, August 22 & 23, 2009

The 2006 Lefthand OHV Area Travel Management Plan authorized the inclusion of a single track trail that follows a ridge and creates a loop from Forest Road 287.1B down to Forest Road 286.1B.  Currently part of this route is an old closed wagon road, part of the route is a user created singletrack, and part of the route there is no trail and it needs to be constructed.  Boulder Ranger District has scheduled a trail crew to do the trail construction in September/October 2009.  This August project for the volunteers will consist of installing post and cable barriers to create a “trail head” to stop full sized vehicles and ATVs from driving on the new single track trail.  The new trail will not open until October.

Saturday August 22nd – This is the biggest work day of the weekend.  We will haul and install the posts and concrete.  We need hard workers and volunteers with vehicles to bring in the tools, posts, concrete and water to the site.

Sunday August 23rd – On this day we will string up the cable and finish installing new signs.

When, Where and What to Bring?

We will all meet at the Lefthand OHV Area entrance at 8:30 each day.  The OHV Area entrance is where Forest Road 286 meets County Road 94 (Lefthand Canyon Drive).  This intersection is 3.5 miles west of Hwy 36.  From here we will sign in, get organized, and travel to the site. Please come prepared with work clothes including sturdy shoes or boots and gloves.  Bring plenty of water and food for the day.  Be prepared for the ever changing weather conditions – sun and rain.

Please RSVP with Brian Rasmussen
