Middle Saint Vrain

Boulder County, Colorado

The Middle Saint Vrain and Coney Creek trails are challenging 4WD routes located close to the Denver metro area and on the edge of the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Big rocks and deep creek crossings provide lots of challenges for experienced drivers in high-clearance 4WD vehicles. The area is also frequented by riders on ATVs.

Popular Trails in This Area

Coney Creek (FDR507)**
Middle Saint Vrain (FDR114)**

Detailed Description

Most people run the difficult Middle Saint Vrain four-wheel drive trail (FDR114) from east to west then connect it with the Coney Creek trail (FDR507) to form an 8.5 mile trip. Either trail can be run as an out and back too. The Coney Creek water crossing is tough for ATVs and motorcycles due to its depth and length. Motorized vehicles are NOT permitted to use the boardwalks to cross Coney Creek. The Middle Saint Vrain trailhead has more trailer parking available than at the Coney Creek trailhead.

Both trails are considered intermediate to difficult trails. The Middle Saint Vrain trail rates a 7 out of 10 and the Coney Creek trail rates a 6 out of 10 on the Colorado Association of 4WD Club's rating scale. Both trails are closed from late October through late June or early July.
