Grizzly Helena Trail System

Jackson County, Colorado

This advanced singletrack trail requires expert bike handling skills to negotiate the major stream crossings and the numerous extremely difficult rocky sections. The singletrack trail becomes an ATV trail a few miles north of Lone Pine and then continues north before terminating at the Helena trailhead.

Detailed Description

This very difficult single track trail can be accessed at several different trail heads. Going from south to north there are the Grizzly, Rainbow Lakes, Pitchpine, Lone Pine, and Helena trailheads. The Helena trailhead is temporarily closed until a bridge can be built over a marshy area. There are several major stream crossings (Roaring Fork and Norris Creeks are impassable in the spring/early summer and Lone Pine and Bear creeks nearly so). There are numerous extremely difficult rocky sections in this trail and it has a steep pitch to the east on most of it as well. The single track portion joins in with an ATV trail a few miles north of the Lone Pine area and continues north to the Helena trailhead as an ATV trail. All in all, a great trail for advanced dirtbike riders. There is also an ATV trail from the Grizzly trailhead to Aqua Fria Lake; and from the Lone Pine area north to Helena (parallels the single track for a few miles).

This trail provides a great challenge for dirt bike riders, and can be accessed through numerous trailheads. There are a number of stream crossings, and challenging hill climbs. Sections of this trail system are open to ATVs as well, offering much of the same experience.
