The Donner Hill area has great singletrack trails that are close to Fort Collins. With trails that connect to the Moody Hill and Crystal Mountain areas, this system has something to offer anyone who is looking for a beautiful outing in the northern foothills.

Detailed Description

An alternative trailhead is at the Buckhorn Ranger Station (N40° 34.867' W105° 28.158'). The Buckhorn Ranger Station trailhead is useful for ATVs looking to access the White Pine Lookout road or for dirt bikes looking to access the Donner Pass singletrack trail.

How To Get There

From Fort Collins: Take Taft Hill Rd to Co Rd 54G/U.S. 287 B. Turn west on Co Rd 54G/U.S. 287 B, continue approx 2.3 miles. Take a slight left at W Co Rd 52E/Tobe Miller Ln, continue on 52E approx 13.3 miles to Co Rd 27/Stove Prairie Rd. Turn Left at Stove Prairie Rd, continue approx 3.7 miles. Turn west at Buckhorn Rd/W Co Rd 44H, continue approx 12.2 miles to Ballard Forest Rd 129. Turn south onto Ballard Forest Rd 129 and follow for approx 3 miles to trail head.

In May 2006 members of the Northern Colorado Trail Riders constructed a new bridge on the Donner Pass Trail. Materials for the bridge were paid for using Colorado State OHV Registration funds. Standing on the bridge are several of the NCTR members who helped build the bridge.

All vehicles operated on designated OHV routes in Colorado must have a registration or permit issued by Colorado State Parks including those of non-residents. For more information, visit the State Parks OHV Program Page.
Some vehicles such as ATVs and side-by-sides are never street legal in Colorado even if licensed and plated in their home state. These vehicles must have a valid Colorado OHV registration or permit to be used on trails on public lands in Colorado.
