Moody Hill / Crystal Mountain

Larimer County, Colorado

The Moody Hill and Crystal Mountain trails are the closest OHV trails to Fort Collins. Good scenery and a few very challenging obstacles combine to make this a good nearby trail for Fort Collins residents. The entrance to Moody can be difficult for stock vehicles especially in wet conditions.

Popular Trails in This Area

Moody Hill (513)**
Unnamed Forest Road (132)**
Crystal Mountain (County Road) (344)**
Lookout Mountain (Singletrack) (TR 934)
Donner Pass Trail (Singletrack) (TR 926)
White Pine Lookout (100)

Detailed Description

The first challenge starts 200 yards up the road on the Moody Hill trail. A large shelf / step requires a high-clearance 4WD vehicle. When the ground is wet, lockers are required. Once the first obstacle is clear, the trail gets considerably less difficult but stay alert for other rocks, ledges, and steps that will require a combination of skilled driving and spotting. Toward the Crystal Mountain end of the trail, the trees narrow down and wider vehicles risk scraping the edges of the roofs on the trees.

Alternative trailheads are at the Buckhorn Ranger Station (N40° 34.867' W105° 28.158') and Donner Pass Trailhead (N40° 33.337' W105° 28.3').
