Free and open year round, the North Sand Hills is the only sand OHV area in the state and provides diverse opportunities for off-highway enthusiasts. The area has primitive camping and restrooms but no sources of potable water. Roads east of the dunes allow access to trails on state and Forest Service land.

East of the dunes is access to trails on state and Forest Service land.
The only sand OHV area in the state, the beautiful North Sand Hills Recreation area provides a variety of opportunities for Off Highway enthusiasts. Free and open year around, there are primitive camping locations throughout the area. Plan to pack in water as there are no potable sources, although there are 4 restroom facilities located around the camping area. Dunes can be accessed from many of the roads in the camping area. Past the dunes to the east there is also great access to ATV trails on State and US Forest service land.

From CO-125, turn East on JCR-6E (one mile north of Cowdrey). Follow JCR-6E approximately 5 miles until you enter North Sand Hills Special Recreation Area.
