Medano Pass leads from Highway 69 over to the Sand Dunes National Park. Along the pass are numerous dispersed camping spots, and a number of designated camping spots inside the National Park and Preserve. Only street-legal 4x4 vehicles and licensed dirt bikes are allowed west of the summit.

Unlicensed vehicles are not permitted into the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, which begins at the summit of Medano Pass.
From Westcliffe:
Take Hwy 69 south to County Road 559. Take a right and head west. You will enter the San Isabel National Forest at roughly 6.9 miles.
From Walsenburg:
Take Hwy 69 North to County Road 559. Take a left and head west. You will enter the San Isabel National Forest at roughly 6.9 miles.
